Today’s episode is a chat with golf course architect Jason Straka, one half of the Fry/Straka design partnership, one of the nicest, smartest, most unnecessarily humble people in golf. I met Jason at a media preview event at Kenwood Country Club in Cincinnati, where he lead the renovation of that club’s Kendale course, which will host the new Queen City Classic LPGA event in 2022.
We talk about Kenwood Country Club, the course renovation, and the tournament, as well as more general matters such as his passion for sustainability in golf course design and maintenance and the insular nature of a lot of golf-centric conversations.
Jason is as well credentialed as he is talented. Seriously, reading his CV is simultaneously impressive and exhausting, which speaks to how seriously he approaches environmental sustainability and stewardship within the context of his golf course designs.
As mentioned after the interview, the Practice Putting Green-18th Green complex is incredible. See for yourself with these snapshots.
