Simple. Classic. Functional. The stalwart unpainted wooden tee is the preferred choice of our readers.

The results of the November poll question are in and the One Bearded Research Team has analyzed the data, and it’s clear that the you, Dear Readers, definitively prefer unpainted, natural wood golf tees.

I’m hardly surprised by this result; sometimes the simplest things are just the best.  I’m just curious if this groups’ affinity for the natural looking tee is a result of conservatism, apathy, or their Scottish heritage (read: cheap).

Of all of the ways a golfer can make a statement about their personal sense of style, fashion, or understanding of technology, a fancy or stylized tee is probably the biggest waste of money.

Also, as a marketing tool, I can appreciate the effort, but frankly, I’ve never considered changing banks, buying a car, or switching insurance companies because I received or found a tee bearing some company’s logo.

Seriously, how many times can you remember actually noticing what type of tee used was by a playing partner or competitor.  It’s probably the most inconsequential equipment selection a golfer can make.

Interestingly, no one admitted to using either the castle tees or zero friction tees.

To be honest, I have no idea what the point or advantage of castle tees purports to be. I do know that I’m afraid I’d damage my clubs if I used them.

I don’t find a lot either of these on the golf course, but I would have thought at least one or two poor souls would have owned up to embracing technology (although, I have no ideas about the science behind either of these technologies).

I was particular proud that so many respondents chimed in that, like me,  they are perfectly comfortable in their cheapness and happy to scavenge whatever tees they find on the course rather than spend an extra dollar or two at their struggling local golf retailers.
