If you’re taking a golf trip to Kentucky, make sure to try to find a place that serves a decent Hot Brown.

It turns out, Dear Readers, that we golfers are gluttons.  We’re gluttons for a longer golf season.  We’re gluttons for punishment, as rarely is our best “good enough” on the golf course.

And, according to the results of the September Poll Questions, we’re just plain gluttons for great food and good drinks on our golf trips.

A few of you thought combining a golf trip with another professional sporting event, be it a baseball or football game, or even attending a professional golf tournament, was a good idea.

Another handful of you cast your lot with taking some time to get away to the beach as the perfect complement your ideal golf vacation.  Some of you even advocate including some “adult entertainment” on the golf trip as the perfect way to add some excitement to your vacation.

However, by a convincing plurality of opinion, it’s clear that quality dining and a night on the town are the preferred partner to 18 or 36 holes on the links.  In the One Bearded Golfer household, the food is often the highlight of the vacation, and it seems you’re with us on this one (see my Hilton Head Dining Guide, as an example).

Not surprisingly, The Tap Room at Pebble Beach was one of the nicest 19th hole pubs I’ve ever set foot in…and they make a mean Old Fashioned too!

I suppose the make-up of the group comprising the golf trip determines how to best spend the down time between and after the golf rounds.  For a guys weekend getaway, I’m sure the emphasis is probably more on the drinks and nightlife than the quality of the entree.  If it’s a couples retreat or a combined family vacation, I suspect perhaps the food plays a more important role.

Surprisingly, I guess you, Dear Readers, are either more sophisticated or domesticated than I gave you credit, as no one voted for a combined golfing and hunting trip, or a trip to the local horse track/casino as the best compliments to the golfing experience.

However, regardless of what sorts of non-golf activities you indulge in, in my experience, if you have interesting golf courses to play with friends or family whose company you enjoy, it’s going to be a fun, memorable golf trip.
